Ryan Johnson and Taylor Kolasinski with the Menasha High School Key Club created a shoe drive fundraiser in February and their goal was to have 2,500 pairs of new or gently used shoes donated which will be sent to developing countries to help communities get out of poverty. The shoe donations help recipients earn money to get out of poverty and helps children go to school. This is beneficial for many countries who are less fortunate while also decreasing the number of shoes that end up in landfills by giving them a second life.
Light Up Appleton is a family festival in the city of Appleton coinciding with the unofficial start of the winter holiday shopping season. Many retailers in downtown Appleton remained open late, and street vendors and other concessionaires sold food, hot beverages, treats and promotional items. The downtown was decorated with Christmas lights, angels over the intersection, trees, among other holiday decorations.
Establishing a positive and beneficial impact on the community has been at the forefront for members of the Appleton Fox Cities Kiwanis Club who recently celebrated their 50th year of existence, having been chartered September 26, 1972.  For 50 years, the local Kiwanis members have spent countless hours offering support and raising funds for charitable causes, both local and non-local to fulfill the mission of Kiwanis of “changing the world, one child and one community at a time.”
UWO College of Business names Anthony Snyder Outstanding Alumni Award winner

Anthony Edward Snyder, the chief executive officer for the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board, was recently honored with the 2022 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Business Outstanding Alumni Award.
On May 18th, the Appleton Fox Cities Kiwanis Club and Appleton 3-2-1 Kiwanis held a Kiwanis n’ Cops n’ Kids reading at the Long Cheng Market in Appleton and dedicated our latest little library.  During the dedication, Polly Olson, the newly-appointed Assistant Chief of the Appleton Police Department, read 'Camp K-9' while Maiyoua Thao, District 7 Alderperson for the City of Appleton and owner of Long Cheng Market, read 'Astrid and Apollo,' a story about a brother and sister at a Hmong New Year celebration, in honor of Asian American Heritage Month.
When COVID-19 changed the face of community service in 2020, the Appleton-Fox Cities Kiwanis Club began looking for new projects that would fulfill the Kiwanis mission while providing social distancing and/or a virtual component. District Governor Jean Long Manteufel’s Kiwanis ‘n Cops ‘n Kids Governor’s project affords clubs the opportunity to perform pandemic-proof service.
Submitted by Jean Long Manteufel, 2020-2021 WI-UM Kiwanis District Governor

As incoming governor of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Kiwanis District, I was looking for a different kind of Governor’s Project, one that we could do with all of our Kiwanis clubs. It needed to tick several boxes:
  • Something clubs can do when money is tight;
  • Something impactful in each Kiwanis community;
  • Something which serves children (of course);
  • Something which affords clubs the opportunity to do service safely, while social distancing; and
  • Something that is fun!
Here’s a riddle: What program, conceived and inaugurated in 2009, turned 40 this year? The answer: Old Glory Honor Flight. That’s right, this program, which offers WWII, Korean War and Viet Nam veterans a memorable, safe and rewarding tour of our nation’s capital and the monuments erected in their honor, flew its 40th mission on June 7, and arrived back at the Appleton International Airport to a tumultuous welcome home!
